Accept Service of Process
Some jurisdictions allow what is referred to as “voluntary acceptance of service.” This is basically a substitute for personal service in which the summons, complaint or petition, and all other documents are sent through the mail.
When the defendant receives the summons and complaint, along with it will be a form that acknowledges acceptance or acknowledgement of service. This must be signed and filed with the court. It simply means that the individual has accepted service without the involvement of a process server. However, if he or she refuses the papers, service will be made by a process server at the defendant’s expense.
