Introduction

Process servers are an essential part of our justice system. They help uphold Americans’ constitutional right to due process. Process servers have such a vital role in protecting America’s civil rights, yet most people have no idea what they do. In this article, you will be enlightened on process servers, what some of their services are, and what it costs to hire one.

What is a Process Server?

A process server is someone who upholds the service of processes; that is, the legal process of notifying all parties who are facing legal action against them in a court of law. The goal of the process server is to deliver a set of legal documents containing information describing legal actions being taken against the person being served. Some of the documents that may be served include complaints, summonses, writs, subpoenas, or other court documents. These documents cannot be served by someone who is a party to the case.

What Service Levels Are Provided?

Standard Service

Standard service means the first attempt to deliver the documents happens within 3 – 5 days of being received. The minimum amount of delivery attempts made is three. If the party being served requires more attempts, there will be additional charges. This service includes an unnotarized affidavit. After 20 pages, you will be charged 30 cents a page.

Rush Service

Rush service is when the process of service is attempted within 2 days of receiving the documents. This service is for one address, entity, person, or company. Rush service includes 3 attempts at delivery. If the served party requires more attempts, there may be additional charges. This service consists of an unnotarized affidavit. After 20 pages, you will be charged 30 cents a page.

Same Day Service

Same day service is when documents are received and delivered on the same day. This service is for one address, entity, person, or company. This service includes 3 attempts, with the first attempt being within one day of receiving the documents. If the party being served requires more attempts, there will be additional charges. This service includes an unnotarized affidavit. After 20 pages, you will be charged 30 cents a page.

How Does It Work?

  • Hire – Choose your service and price. Pay via check, card, or Venmo.
  • Upload – Send information and upload documents to the server.
  • Serve – The process server completes the service of process.
  • Confirm – Receive affidavit and immediate updates on service status with ServeManager.

How Much Does IT Cost to Have Papers Served?

Process server rates can vary from case to case because each case is different, and each person being served can come with their own difficulties. For example, same-day or rushed services are a higher cost, and routine service can go up in price if the additional mileage or skip trace is required if the person is evasive or needs to be located.

Conclusion

Process service turnaround times can vary, and in some ways, the duration can be dependent on you.
